Black fungus!!!
The word itself comes with huge panic!!
The amount of covid and Mucor we all are seeing it’s difficult not to panic with this word!
But literally
Does it mean BlackFungus ???
Mucormycosis it’s actually a type of fungal infection which we used to see in diabetic patients and now with Covid, the risk of Mucormycosis is really higher. So from where does this new infection comes. Basically, it’s there in the environment and dispose, we all inhale these, and those who have reduced immune system are more prone for this infection. Which might include your diabetes, under control doses of steroid or another immune suppression.
So what type of fungus do I have visited, White fungus? Black Fungus?
How do you know what it is and we really need to differentiate it. Let me just first clarify what does this mean, so basically when we talk about Black Fungus, thisis a particular type of fungus which recall as Dermat. Is this is fungi? or related to some other infections not Mucormycosis. Mucormycosis is a type of infection which is common in diabetic patients. And with Covid we are seeing increasing number of Mucormycosis sinusitis. The other type of mucormycosis what we see includes skin, lung and gastrointestinal kidney, but in Covid what we are seeing more commonly is Rhinosinusitis and sometimes it involves your orbit and people are losing eyes if they are presenting late. Yes it does affect your brain and patient have been abscess and have complications related to it.
